BCCA Secretariat Onboarded

  • Onboarded the first BCCA Secretariat through the Community Conservancy Policy Support Program (CCPSP) by KWCA.
  • Developed basic operational policies to enhance governance and management.
  • Supported Chuine, Irong, and Kiborgoch Conservancies in developing Land Use and Management Plans for sustainable resource management.

Increased Membership

  • Increased conservancy membership from 13 in 2020 to 16 currently, signifying increase in conservation efforts.

Elections

  • Conducted the First BCCA Elections, forming a council of 21 members representing 3 clusters for inclusive governance and effective decision making.

Recognitions

  • Developed a Sustainability and Local Ownership Plan to ensure long-term conservation impact.
  • BCCA recognized as a Finalist for the Equator Prize 2024
  • Secured significant funding:
      • WWF Voices for Just Climate Action to support climate resilience programs in Baringo.
      • A three-year grant from USAID to support BCCA's core operations and conservation programs.
  • Established a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the private sector to support initiatives development of conservancies nature-based enterprises
    • Collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife& Heritage to Construct a water pan at Kiborgoch Conservancy to address water scarcity.
      • Develop a 20km road for Ruko Conservancy, improving accessibility and fostering eco-tourism opportunities.

Baringo County Conservancies Association (BCCA) was registered in 2017 as a landscape level membership organization for community conservancies in Baringo County.
